Godbless storms to 10.91 100m World Lead, moves fourth in Nigerian all-time list; Jimoh sets new lifetime best in 800m

Tima Godbless stormed to a 10.91 world lead to win her 100m heat at the NCAA East First Round held on Thursday in Jacksonville, Florida.

The Nigerian flew out of the blocks in bullet-like fashion and was never head as she sped into history books not only as the World Leader in the event but also the fouth fastest time in Louisiana State University history, the fourth fastest time by a Nigerian in the history of the event and number six in the African all-time list.

Godbless, who lost her National Sports Festival double sprint gold this week without a fight, is now the eighth Nigerian woman in history to break 11 seconds in the blue ribband event and the 14th African.

The 21 year old has now qualified for the final of the event and looks a cast iron certainty to pick one of the 12 tickets on offer that will take her to her first NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championship final after missing out last year.

Also through to the three-heat final are the duo of Elo Blessing Okpah who ran a new 11.19 lifetime best and Alabama’s Precious Nzeakor who also set a new personal best (11.24).

In the 400m, Ella Onojuvwevwo also booked her place in the three-heat final after running 51.25 to win her heat.

Also through are Esther Joseph (51.76), Onyah Onyinye Favour (51.93 PB), Deborah Opeyemi (52.22 season’s best) and Joy Nwokike (52.39 PB).

In the 800m, Osheku Athletics Academy graduate, Ramat Jimoh set a new 2:03.45 lifetime best to also book her place in Saturday’s final.

Jimoh has now broken her personal best twice in a space 12 days after running 2:03.64 May 17 in Kentucky.
