Godbless storms to 7.22 lifetime best, moves joint 15th in Nigeria all-time list
Tima Godbless ran a blistering 7.22 seconds in the 60m event at the LSU Purple Tiger indoor meet in Louisiana on Friday evening to set a new lifetime best and move to number 15 in the Nigerian-all time list.
The 20 year old came into the competition with a 7.77 personal best achieved last year in his first season running in the Collegiate circuit.
The 2022 National Sports Festival double sprint champion is also the third fastest in the world so far this season and fastest in the Nigerian 2025 list, supplanting Magdaline George who ran 7.27 at the Sparks Convention Center Halls, Reno, NeVada early this month.
Christy Opara-Thompson and Chioma Ajunwa are the Nigerian record holders in the event at 7.02 while only seven Nigerians have dipped inside 7.10 seconds in the event.
At the Samford Invite, Adekalu Fakorede of Mississippi State University ran a 6.64 lifetime best to win the 60m event ahead of Nigerian, Olaolu Olatunde who ran 6.68. The Auburn University duo of Kanyinsola Ajayi and Israel Okon did not start in the final after running 6.67 and 6.64 respectively in the earlier rounds.
The duo of Consider Ekanem and Caleb Joshua are the Nigerian leaders so far this season with 6.57 seconds while Deji Aliu holds the national record at 6.48.
