‘Grand Slam Track presents an opportunity to race against the best athletes as well as the chance to earn more’, Says Danielle Williams

Reigning World 100m hurdles champion Danielle Williams who will be one of the headline acts when the Grand Slam Track begins this April with the first leg in Kingston, Jamaica say the competition, created by USA’s 200 and 400m Olympic champion, Michael Johnson is good for the sport of track and field.

The two-time world champion has been added as one of the six Challengers for the four-leg series and will face fellow Jamaican Ackera Nugent, who has been signed as a Racer as well as three other Racers including Olympic champion, Masai Russell and former Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn.

“It (the Grand Slam Track) presents an opportunity to race the best athletes consistently, as well as the chance to earn more. I’m hoping that its format will bring more eyes to the sport and will gain more popularity among the mainstream media. Track is exciting, and hopefully, this series will showcase that,’ Williams told SportsMax.TV.

According to SportsMax.TV, Williams says ‘she can’t wait to take on her rivals in Jamaica’s 60-year-old stadium.’

“I’m looking forward to another opportunity to race, especially in front of home fans. I’m hoping the fans come out and pack the stadium and show their passion,’ she said and reveals her target is to win a third world title this September in Tokyo, Japan.

“My training schedule is geared towards the World Championships in September, and every meet leading up to that is an opportunity to try to transfer what I’m working on in training to competition,” Williams explained.
