Great expectations as Ramot Jimoh set to make 800m 2025 outdoor debut on Saturday

All eyes will be on Ramot Abike Jimoh, the Mississippi State University Junior, when she makes her 2025 outdoor debut in the 800m event at the Crimson Tide Invitational in Alabama, USA.

The 21-year-old turned heads at the Orange and Purple Invitational in Clemson, South Carolina in January when she chopped off over four seconds off her personal best in the 800m indoors to set a new 2:04.97 lifetime best.

She has raced inside 2:07 and 2:06 after that and athletics watchers are looking to see of the Osheku Athletics Academy athlete who is on track scholarship in the USA can be the first Nigerian two full lapper to break the two minutes barrier in the event.

The fastest a Nigerian has achieved in the event was the 2:02:04 run by Grace Ebor on her way to winning the 800m gold at the African Games in October 2003 in Abuja.

Jimoh had an incredible indoor season as she sets a number of lifetime best which included the 2:04.97 in the 800m, the 4:49.49 Nigerian Mile record and the 2:49.22 1000m lifetime best.
