Gunners aiming to secure 2,000th Premier League win with victory at Bournemouth

Arsenal will become only the second team in Premier League history after Liverpool to secure at least 2000 wins in the competition’s history if they beat Bournemouth Saturday evening at the Vitality stadium in a match week eight game.

The Gunners secured their first win in the English topflight league in September 1904 when they defeated Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-0 in their first season in the first division league.

Arsenal were then known as Woolwich Arsenal and won the game on their ground at the Manor Ground.

Since, Arsenal have won 1,998 more games in the competition and will hit the 2,000th mark on Saturday if they defeat their host.

According to Opta, Liverpool (2,065) are the only English club to have reached the landmark, with the Reds passing 2,000 top-flight league victories back in December 2021 with Manchester United (1,908) in second, some 91 games behind second placed Arsenal who have 1,999 wins.

Fourth is Everton with 1,900 wins while Aston Villa (1,723), Man City (1,595), Tottenham Hotspur (1,507), Chelsea (1,479), Newcastle United (1,413) and Sunderland (1,260) complete the top 10.

The game at Bournemouth will now be about Arsenal reaching a landmark alone as Bukayo Saka, if he is fit to play, will also make a piece of history.

Saka is 23 years and 44 days this Saturday and if he scores against Bournemouth, he will become the youngest player to score 50 goals for the club in the competition and the 11th player overall.
