Gusau Applauds Mumuni Alao, Hails Him as a Trailblazer in Sports Journalism
President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, has showered praise on veteran journalist and Managing Director of Complete Communications, Dr. Mumuni Alao, for his outstanding contributions to sports journalism in Nigeria. He urged fellow sports writers to emulate Alao’s professionalism and intellectual depth.
Gusau’s commendation came on Sunday during the launch of Alao’s autobiography, held at the Tayo Adenirokun Hall, University of Lagos, Akoka. Represented by the Chairman of the Nigeria National League, Mr. George Aluo, Gusau described Alao as a journalist of rare brilliance whose intellectual prowess has elevated the standards of sports reporting in the country.
‘Mumuni Alao needs no introduction in Nigerian journalism. He has made his mark by using his brilliance and intellectual capacity to reshape sports reporting. I’m glad he has remained committed to the ethics of the profession, and his contributions continue to move journalism forward,’ Gusau stated.
He emphasized the need for more journalists to follow Alao’s example, noting that such dedication would help propel Nigerian sports to greater heights.
‘With professionals like him in the field, Nigerian sports will keep advancing. I look forward to seeing more Mumuni Alaos in our sports journalism circles,’ he added.
Gusau also called on journalists to foster closer collaboration with the NFF, stressing that constructive engagement is vital for the growth of Nigerian football.
‘I appeal to Nigerian journalists to work closely with the football house, as is done in other countries. Constructive criticism is welcome, but antagonistic reporting benefits no one,’ he concluded.
The event drew a host of dignitaries, including former Lagos State Governor Babatunde Raji Fashola (SAN), who served as the guest speaker; NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko; NPFL Chairman Gbenga Elegbeleye; and Minister of State for Industry, Senator John Owan Eno, who wrote the foreword to the book.
Several ex-internationals also graced the occasion, including Segun Odegbami, Dominic Iorfa, Mutiu Adepoju, and Etim Esin.
Dr. Mumuni Alao, widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s most accomplished sports journalists, is a media entrepreneur and author. He currently serves as a consultant to Complete Communications Limited, publishers of the popular Complete Football magazine and Complete Sports newspaper, where he previously held the position of Group Managing Director.
His latest book follows his earlier publication, The Making of Nigeria’s Dream Team: Football Gold Medal Winners at Atlanta ’96 Olympic Games.
