Gusau Commends Progress on NFF/FIFA Players’ Hostel and Training Pitches

President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work on the NFF-FIFA Players’ Hostel and new training pitches currently under construction at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

During an inspection visit to the site on Thursday, Gusau, accompanied by members of the NFF Management, was conducted around the project by the lead architect, Architect Gambo Ahmadu. The site is strategically located opposite the NFF Secretariat within the stadium complex.

Speaking after the tour, Gusau praised the contractors for their commitment and professionalism, noting that the project is progressing well within the 24-month timeline set for completion.

‘I am happy with the pace of the work, the seriousness shown so far by the contractors, and the quality of the work as seen so far,’ Gusau said. ‘They have a 24-month mandate to deliver, and at the pace they are going, they should be able to complete the Players’ Hostel and the Training Pitches on or before that timeline.’

He described the initiative as a legacy project for the current NFF administration, emphasizing its importance to the federation’s long-term development goals.

‘It is very close to our hearts. I am also happy that the project is located close to the office where members of the NFF Executive Committee, myself, and the NFF Management and Staff can easily monitor what is being done.’

The inspection covered the new training pitches, the existing pitch slated for renovation, and the two-story Players’ Hostel. The facility will feature office and conference spaces on the ground floor, with accommodation for players and officials on the upper levels.

Gusau also requested a detailed progress report and photographic documentation to be submitted to FIFA, in line with project oversight requirements.

The project was approved during the second meeting of the current NFF Executive Committee, with funding drawn from residual FIFA Forward 2.0 allocations and anticipated support from FIFA Forward 3.0. It includes the construction of a modern hostel and two training pitches—one natural turf and one synthetic—at the Goal Project section of Package B.
