Gusau urges coaches to apply knowledge as NFF concludes CAF B-License course
President of the Nigeria Football Federation, Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau (MON), has called on participants of the CAF B-License coaching course to fully apply the knowledge gained during the seven-month programme.
Speaking at the closing ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, Gusau emphasized the importance of translating theory into practice, especially as the course spanned four intensive modules held between April and November.
Reflecting on his administration’s progress, Gusau expressed pride in the federation’s achievements, noting that the CAF B, C, and D License programmes have been successfully implemented under his leadership.
He highlighted the CAF C course as a landmark initiative, being exclusively designed for women, in recognition of Nigeria’s leading role in women’s football across Africa.
Gusau also stressed the need to involve former international players in coaching development, citing their wealth of experience as a valuable asset. He revealed plans to decentralize coaching instructor courses to zonal levels, allowing coaches to receive training without the need to travel to Abuja.
The NFF President shared his satisfaction with feedback from CAF Education Officer Honour Janza, who praised the professionalism and commitment of the participating coaches.
Looking ahead, Gusau confirmed that the NFF is working toward launching a CAF A License course in the first quarter of the coming year, with the goal of completing it before his tenure ends in September.
He expressed hope that Nigerian coaches would not only earn certifications but also take up roles across Africa, citing the participation of a Tanzanian coach in the current course as a sign of growing continental collaboration.
The ceremony was attended by key figures in Nigerian football, including NFF First Vice President Chief Felix Anyansi-Agu, General Secretary Dr Mohammed Sanusi (MON), Deputy General Secretary Dr Emmanuel Ikpeme, NPFL Chief Operating Officer Mr Davidson Owumi, Technical Director Austin Eguavoen, NNL Chairman Chief George Aluo, CAF Education Officer Honour Janza, NFF Head of Education Dr Terry Eguaoje, Coaching Instructors Ambassador Henry Abiodun and Mr Abdulrafiu Yusuf, NFF Director of Media and Communications Dr Ademola Olajire, and NFF Internal Auditor Mr Godson Iyere.
