Haaland Breaks Ronaldo’s Record, Closes in on Lewandowski’s Scoring Streak
Manchester City striker Erling Haaland has officially surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo’s career record for consecutive games scored in, after netting in City’s 2–0 Champions League victory over Villarreal on Tuesday night.
The goal marked Haaland’s 12th consecutive match with a goal for club and country, eclipsing Ronaldo’s 11-game streak set in 2014 with Real Madrid and Portugal.
Haaland, 25, is now just two games away from equaling the longest scoring run by a top five league player this century, Robert Lewandowski’s 14-match streak for Bayern Munich and Poland between February and May 2021.
With 327 goals in 390 professional appearances, the Norwegian continues to cement his status as the most lethal goalscorer of his generation.
Meanwhile, Kylian Mbappé is also chasing history. The French forward, now at Real Madrid, will match Haaland’s 12-game streak if he scores against Juventus in tonight’s Champions League fixture.
Lionel Messi, widely regarded as one of the greatest players of all time, holds the record for most consecutive league goals with 21 in LaLiga. However, his longest streak across all competitions peaked at 10 games, achieved twice during his time at Barcelona.
