Hammer thrower, Clunis drags Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association to CAS over exclusion from Paris 2024 Olympics
Hammer thrower, Nayoka Clunis has dragged the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association, JAAA, to the Ad hoc Division of the Court of Arbitration for Sport, CAS, sitting in Paris over her non-inclusion in her country’s track and field team to the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Clunis says she was qualified and selected by the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association (JAAA) to represent Jamaica in the hammer throw competition at the Olympic Games Paris
2024, but eventually her name was not submitted by the JAAA to World Athletics (WA).
The 28 year old is seeking a decision from the CAS Ad hoc Division directing that she be included on the appropriate list to participate in the hammer throw competition at the Olympic Games Paris 2024.
Clunis will feel she has a case as athletes who are lower than her in World Athletics World Rankings have been included by other countries, specially Colombia and Ukraine whose athletes, Mayra Gaviria and Iryna Klymets have lower ranking score of 1142 each and ranked 43rd and 44th respectively why the Jamaican, with a ranking score of 1150 is ranked te 35th best in the world.
CAS will find out if JAAA stated the rules for qualification and if Clunis ran foul of it.
Meanhwile, CAS has appointed a panel of arbitrators and will hold a hearing with the parties on 20 July 2024.
The Panel’s decision is expected to be issued on 21 July 2024
