Holloway Pro Classic 2024: Ofili catches Hill at the finish line to take 100m title

Nigeria’s Favour Ofili overcame a bad start to win the 100m event at the Mike Holloway Pro Classic 2024, a World Athletics Continental Tour – Silver event held Saturday morning (Nigeria) in Gainesville, Florida.

The Nigerian caught her training partner, Candice Hill, the 2016 World U20 champion just on the line to take the win with 11.07, her second fastest time of the season.

Hill was also given 11.07 but the Nigerian’s reaction time of 11.061 nicked it for her.

Ofili ran her fastest 100m time of the year, 11.06 to win her first Nigerian Championships title in the event last month in Benin city, Edo state.

The 21 year old Ofili told interviewer, Grant Holloway at the end of the race she would work on her start.

Ofili is not running the 100m event for Nigeria at the Olympics in Paris going by the final entry standard released by World Athletics during the week but the Nigerian 200m record holder indoors and out will be in a confident mood as she prepares to make a mark in her debut at the biggest sporting stage in the world.
