Hull City complete signing of ‘another Nigerian’ James Debayo

Hull City have announced the signing of former Leeds United centre-back James Debayo, adding another Nigerian talent to their ranks alongside Super Eagles defender Semi Ajayi.

The 20-year-old, who has represented England at Under-18 level, has penned an 18-month contract at the MKM Stadium running until 2027, with the club holding an option to extend for a further year.

Debayo made his senior debut for Leeds in November 2024, coming off the bench in a thrilling 4–3 victory over Swansea City.

Speaking after completing the move, he said: ‘A couple of months ago, I came in to train with the boys to get a feel for the place. I really liked it, and luckily, I’m here permanently now. I feel I can progress here, become a more experienced player and get more games under my belt.’

Hull boss Liam Rosenior will now look to integrate the young defender into his squad as the Tigers continue to bolster their defensive options, with Debayo eager to follow in the footsteps of Ajayi and establish himself as a key figure at the club.
