‘I Have Worked Hard for This,’ says Morales Williams After Storming to World Indoor 400m Gold

Christopher Morales Williams claimed gold in the men’s 400m at the ongoing World Indoor Championships in Poland, setting a new championship record and announcing himself on the global stage.

‘I have worked hard for this. A gold and a championship record, I could not ask for more. I knew I could run as fast as this, I have actually run faster in my career. I had a feeling things would work well for me,’ h said post-race.

Known for his powerful finishing kick, Morales Williams explained his race strategy.

‘I was not worried about being behind for most of the race as closing is what I do best, so I actually love to be behind. With 50m to go, I thought I was still running strongly and I could win it.’

He also praised the two-race final format, familiar from his NCAA experience.

‘It gives everyone a chance to win, there are no bad lanes. You race against the clock but first you have to beat the guys in your race.’

Looking ahead, the 21-year-old said the victory will fuel his ambitions outdoors.

‘The win gives me a big boost for the outdoor season.’
