‘I Still Cannot Fully Realise What I Have Done’: Dosso on Cloud Nine After Winning World Indoor 60m Gold

Italy’s Zaynab Dosso raced to glory at the World Indoor Championships in Poland, winning the women’s 60m title and finally claiming the gold medal she had long chased.

The sprinter, who had previously collected silver and bronze, was emotional after crossing the line first.

‘I still cannot fully realise what I have done. This was something I have wanted for many years. I took silver and bronze medals before, now I am finally the champion.’

Dosso highlighted the significance of beating a strong field.

‘And this year, unlike last, everyone was here, people like Julien Alfred, so it means even more. I thought it would take a time below seven seconds to win but that is how championship finals are.’

She admitted her race was not flawless.

‘I would not say everything worked perfectly here, I had to change my start a bit because my spikes did not have a good grip on the blocks.’

Looking ahead, Dosso is already targeting bigger goals.

‘In the summer, I want to break the Italian record for the 100m and perhaps even the 200m. I will not have a lot of time to celebrate, I have an exam on Monday and I have to move to a new home next week but I will find some time to enjoy it with my family.’
