Iheanacho Moves Above Drogba In FA Cup Goal Involvements
Makes it 21 goal involvements in 25 FA Cup games
Kelechi Iheanacho returned to action for Leicester City for the first time since 2023 Boxing Day to help the Foxes book their quarterfinal ticket in the FA Cup for the first time since 2021 when the Nigerian’s four goals and one assist in six games ensured a first FA Cup win for the club.
The 27 year old was subbed on in the second half of the fifth round encounter and provided the assist for Abdul Fatawu who scored in extra time (105 minutes) as the Foxes’ ran away 1-0 winners at the Vitality stadium against Premier League side, Bournemouth.
The assist was the Nigerian’s third in 25 appearances in the competition and moves him clear of Chelsea and Cote D’Ivoire legend, Didier Drogba.
Iheanacho has scored 18 times in the competition and his three assists bring his total goal involvement to 21 in 25 matches, one more than Drogba who scored 12 times and provided eight assists in 29 games.
As many as 15 of the goal involments (13 goals and two assists) came in 19 games as a Leicester City player while the remaining six (five goals and an
assist) cme while he was a Manchester City player.
Iheanacho still remains the top scoring Nigerian nay African man in the competition.
Leicester City will be hoping the Nigerian can lead them to their second FA Cup win in recent memory after his four goals and one assist in six games helped secured their first trophy in 2021.
