Iheanacho returns to Sevilla training ahead of Copa Del Rey game, drops to lowest market value since 2016
Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to training after the Christmas holidays. The Nigerian joined a few of the players for training on Monday and was also at the training ground on new year eve.
The Super Eagles forward who ended the 2024 calendar year without scoring a goal in the and played from the bench for most of his LaLiga appearances will be confident of starting the new year with a goal when his face Almeria in the Copa del Rey round of 32 tie.
Iheanacho has scored three goals in two appearances in the competition in 2024 to live up to billing as king of goals in domestic cup competitions.
The 28-year-old left England as a free agent to join Sevilla in July after setting records as the most prolific Nigerian nay African man in the FA Cup with 18 goals in 25 appearances and second top scoring Nigerian with 10 goals in 24 games, behind Dele Adebola who netted 12 times in 30 appearances.
The former Man City and Leicester City forward is third top scoring Nigerian in Copa del Rey history with his three goals despite playing just twice.
If he scores in his third straight Copa del Rey game this weekend, he will move joint second with Kabiru Akinsola who scored four goals in six games.
Former Villarreal winger, Samuel Chukwueze is the top scoring Nigerian in the competition with the nine goals he netted in 14 appearances.
Iheanacho’s future is however not certain at the club following his indifferent performance in the LaLiga where he has neither scored nor provided an assist in the nine appearances he has made since he joined Sevilla.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian’s market value has plummeted to its lowest level since 2016.
Iheanacho is now worth just €5m following the latest update on LaLiga market values by Transfermarkt.
He is now ranked number 27th among all players from Nigeria, 13th among all players at Sevilla FC, 182nd among all players of the LaLiga and 1,933rd among all players worldwide.
