Iheanacho ‘would be brilliant in the Championship’
Says Leicester Mercury reporter, Jordan Blackwell
Leicester Mercury reporter, Jordan Blackwell says Kelechi Iheanacho will be brilliant for Leicester City in the Championship when the English second tier league starts in three weeks.
Iheanacho scored five goals in 28 appearances last term but the goals were not enough to keep the Foxes in the Premier League.
The Nigerian has beenlinked with a move away from the King Power stadium six years after he joined from Manchester City in August 2017 and he has just one year left on his deal.
Blackwell believes if Leicester City keep Iheaancho, he would help in their instant return to the Premier League but knows the club risk losing him for nothing after his contract expires next year.
‘Iheanacho is an interesting one. It feels like something has to happen as he has just one year left on his deal, and I don’t think City will want to lose him for nothing.
‘But with the price floating about, £8m, it feels to me that it’s worth the risk in keeping him, hoping he helps them get promoted, and then
hoping he signs a new contract.
‘ I’ve said plenty of times before, I think Iheanacho is a very good player and I think he would be brilliant in the Championship. Maybe it will be a case of City seeing how much they can get from other sales – like Barnes, Castagne, Praet, and Vestergaard – before making calls over Iheanacho and Ndidi’, wrote Blackwell in the Leicester Mercury.
