‘I’ll Be Our Biggest Fan’: Dessers Turns Super Eagles Supporter After Injury Ends AFCON Debut

Super Eagles striker Cyriel Dessers has vowed to become Nigeria’s biggest supporter at the Africa Cup of Nations after a thigh injury cruelly ended his debut campaign in Morocco.

The Panathinaikos forward, who sustained the injury during Nigeria’s training camp, has returned to his Greek club for rehabilitation. Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle confirmed that the 31-year-old could be sidelined for up to 12 weeks, ruling him out of the remainder of the tournament.

Dessers took to social media to express his disappointment but also his determination to back the team from afar.

‘Unfortunately I sustained an injury at AFCON. It’s extremely difficult to accept that I will miss the remainder of the tournament and an important period at Panathinaikos,’ he wrote.

Despite the setback, Dessers pledged his full support for the Super Eagles as they chase a record-extending continental crown.

‘I will be our biggest fan in these weeks, go full in rehab and hopefully we can celebrate a win and a goal together soon,’ he added.

Since making his debut in 2020, Dessers has earned 11 caps and scored four goals for Nigeria. While his absence is a blow to the squad, his words reflect the unity and belief driving the Super Eagles as they continue their quest for AFCON glory.
