‘I’m a bit of a poacher when it comes to set pieces,’ says Bassey after goal Vs Man United on FA Cup debut

Fulham’s Nigeria defender, Calvin Bassey says he is “a bit of a poacher” when it comes to set pieces after the 25-year-old scored the Cottagers goal in their penalty shootout win against Manchester United in the FA Cup round four fixture at Old Trafford on Sunday.

It was the centre-back’s first appearance in the competition since he moved to England last season.

It was also his second goal and second win in five appearances against the Red Devils across all competitions after he and his Nigerian club mate, Alex Iwobi scored in the 2-1 win at Old Trafford in a Premier League fixture last season.

Bassey acknowledged they played against a good team but revealed how they managed to control the game.
“They’re a very good team with a lot of talent. We tried to take the sting out of the game and control possession.

“They had their chances and sometimes a game goes down to penalties. We had a bit of fortune in the penalties with Leno saving two.

“I am proud of every single player,’ said Bassey after the game.

Fulham have drawn Crystal Palace in the quarter-finals, which will be played during the final week of March.
