Incredible Nathaniel runs 48.00 in 400m hurdles to break his Nigerian 400m hurdles record!
Nnamdi wins third straight Javelin title, Chukwuma triumps in 100m
Ezekiel Nathaniel was just whiskers away from becoming the first Nigerian man to run a sub-48 seconds over the 400m hurdles after he stopped the clock at 48 seconds flat to win the event at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships 2024.
It was a new Nigerian record for the 20 year old who has now broken the record twice this year after running 48.29 in Gainesville, Florida in April.
Nathaniel first broke the record in 2022 after running past the 48.50 Henry Amike ran in 1987, breasting the tape, as it were, in 48.42.
He has now moved up to number eight in the African all-time list.
Also at the Big 12 Outdoor Championships, Texas Tech University’s Rosemary Chukwuma ran 11.12 to equal her personal season’s best in winning the 100m event. Her school and Nigerian compatriot, Success Umukoro was ninth in the event (11.52).
Chukwuma however finished ninth in the 200m (23.39).
In the men’s Javelin decided on opening day of the Championships, Prosper Nnamdi threw a distance of 80.02m to wins his third-straight Big 12 Championship title in the event.
