Incredible Ramat Jimoh storms to a new lifetime best in 800m for her third Personal Best showing in 2025
Just days after storming to a 4:58.10 Nigeria record in the Mile, Ramat Abike Jimoh has raced to a huge personal best in the women’s 800m at the Orange and Purple Invitational meeting held in Clemson, South Carolina on Saturday.
The 21-year-old ran 2:04.97 to set a new lifetime best just seven days after she ran 2:08.06 to improve on the 2:08.48 she ran in 2022 at the Yabatech Sports Complex in Yaba, Lagos.
The athlete who grew under the tutelage of foremost athletics coach, chief Tony Osheku who discovered her at the Ogbomosho 10km road race sponsored by then Minister of Sports, Sunday Akin Dare in 2022, has been improving since she secured track scholarship to the Mississippi State University and this year alone has ran new personal bests in three individual events viz 800m which she has improved on twice, the Mile where she set a new Nigeria record and the 1000m where she raced inside three minutes (2:49.22) in her first recorded attempt.
Jimoh believes she can be the first Nigerian woman to break the two minutes barrier in the 800m and with the huge four seconds she shaved off the 2:08.06 she ran just last week, it will be difficult to bet against her.
