Inter Milan President, Marotta: ‘Lookman deal to be concluded in 2 to 3 days’
Inter President Beppe Marotta has confirmed that negotiations with Atalanta over Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman are reaching a pivotal moment, with a resolution expected within the next two to three days.
Inter’s initial bid of €40 million was rejected, and they declined to include Francesco Pio Esposito in any swap deal. Despite the setback, Lookman remains the top transfer target for new coach Cristian Chivu, whose tactical blueprint identifies the player as a perfect fit.
Speaking during Chivu’s unveiling, Marotta was transparent:
‘Lookman is an important element—suggested not just by the coach but also by the technical staff. He is widely admired across Europe, though he remains an Atalanta player today. We have a healthy relationship with Atalanta and won’t adopt an aggressive stance.’
Talks are delicate but ongoing. Marotta hinted at direct communications with Atalanta CEO Luca Percassi, acknowledging the complexity of acquiring top talent in the current market.
Echoing previous reports by Football Italia’s Alfredo Pedullà, the Inter chief reiterated that the club will make a firm decision by July 29. If Atalanta opens the door, Inter is ready to proceed with ‘concrete negotiations.’ Otherwise, alternative names on their shortlist will be considered.
Marotta also addressed concerns about Lookman’s age, saying:
‘Experience is as valuable as youth. Lookman may not be sold for profit, but his quality and character can give us the edge.’
As the clock ticks, all eyes will be on Inter and Atalanta to see whether one of Serie A’s most talked-about moves goes through before the deadline.
