Iredia admits to using performance enhancers, slammed three-year ban by AIU
Reigning Nigeria triple jump champion and African long jump bronze medalist, Goodness Iredia has admitted to spiking his system with performance enhancing substances after the urine sample he provided in-competition in Louisville, United States of America at the end of January 2025 tested positive for Metenolone and Metabolite.
Iredia jumped 7.79m to win the long jump event at the competition in Louisville.
Following the presence of the banned substances in his system, Iredia was notified of this last month which was followed by the imposition of a provisional suspension.
The Nigerian was also informed of his rights, inter alia, to request the B sample analysis, to request copies of the laboratory documentation supporting the adverse analytical finding
and to admit the anti-doping rule violations and potentially benefit from a one-year reduction in the period of ineligibility.
Early this month, Iredia wrote to the Athletics Integrity Unit, AIU, to admit to the use of the banned substances.
‘On 5 March 2025, the AIU received an admission of anti-doping rule violations and acceptance of consequcences form signed by the athlete,’ wrote the body whose role is to protect the
integrity of the sport of athletics, including fulfilling World Athletics’ obligations as a signatory to the World Anti-Doping Code.
Although the mandatory period of ineligibility is four years, Iredia has however benefitted from the one year reduction based on his early admission and acceptance of sanction, as contained in the relevant anti-doping rules ( 10.8.1).
He has thus received a three year ban from 26 February 2025 with his results since 31 January 2025 annulled.
