Italian media hails ‘outstanding’ Osimhen in win over Cagliari

Major newspapers in Italy have hailed Victor Osimhen as the star of the show in Napoli’s 2-1 win over Cagliari, scoring an impressive header and providing an
outstanding, hard-fought assist for the winner.

The Nigerian was inspirational in Napoli’s return to winning ways after they had had suffered back-to-back losses in the Serie A.

He scored Napoli and the game’s opener on 69 minutes with a towering header before producing the assist for the winner after the visitors had cancelled out
the Nigerian’s opener.

‘How nice to see how much he cares. Active already in the first half, the break into the opener was splendid, the stubbornness with which he won the ball
when he passed to Kvaratskhelia for the 2-1,’ wrote the highly influential La Gazzetta dello Sport about Osimhen.

Corriere dello Sport echoed La Gazzetta dello Sport sentiments.

‘First he smashed his header in NBA style, overtaking Dossena and Obert: 1-0. Then he serves the assist for 2-1 to Kvara.

‘Yes, but as a champion, seven dribbles in the area with foot, thigh and head (the last) between four men – like the old Nappi – and finishing with strength
between Goldaniga and Obert with those infinite legs. Unmarkable. A force of nature,’ the newspaper wrote.

La Gazzetta dello Sport gave Osimhen a 7.5 rating while Tuttosport rated the Nigerian 7 out of 10.

Corriere dello Sport believes the Nigerian’s performance is worth a 8 out of 10 while Corriere della Sera rated the reigning Serie A top scorer 7.5.
