It’s Nigeria vs Mozambique in AFCON 2025 Round of 16 in Fès

It’s Nigeria versus Mozambique in the Round of 16 at the ongoing 35th Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles will face the Black Mambas at the 45,000‑capacity Fès Sports Complex in Morocco, the same venue where Nigeria swept their group with a perfect record viz beating Tanzania 2–1, Tunisia 3–2, and Uganda 3–1.

This fixture marks only the second time the nations have met at AFCON. Their first encounter came in the group stage of the 2010 tournament in Angola, when Nigeria ran out 3–0 winners thanks to a brace from Peter Odemwingie and a late strike from Obafemi Martins.

Nigeria arrive at this stage making their 21st AFCON appearance, with three titles already to their name.

Mozambique, by contrast, are in their fifth tournament, but AFCON 2025 has already been historic for them. After debuting in 1986 and returning in 1996, 1998, and 2010, all ending in group‑stage exits, the Black Mambas finally celebrated their first AFCON victory this year, defeating Gabon 3–2 to reach the knockout phase for the first time.

The clash in Fès offers Nigeria the chance to continue their march toward a fourth continental crown, while Mozambique will be hoping to extend their fairytale run.
