Iwobi becomes third Nigerian after Kanu and Yakubu to make 50+ EPL appearances for three different Clubs
Fulham midfielder, Alex Iwobi has become the third Super Eagles player to play at least 50 Premier League games for three different clubs after he made his 20th start in his club’s 20th Premier League game at the Craven Cottage against Ipswich Town on Sunday.
Iwobi also became the fifth African player to make 50+ Premier League appearances for three different teams.
The 28-year-old has thus joined an elite group of African players, including Nigerian legends Nwankwo Kanu and Yakubu, as well as Senegal’s duo of El Hadji Diouf and Mohamed Diamé in that exclusive club.
Iwobi has now featured in 50 Premier League games for Fulham, scoring 10 times. He made 123 appearances for Everton and 100 for Arsenal, scoring six and 11 goals respectively.
Kanu was the first Nigerian to achieve the feat after he scored 54 times in 271 appearances in the Premier League. He netted 30 goals in 119 games for Arsenal, 17 in 100 appearances for Portsmouth and seven in 52 matches for west Brom.
Aiyegbeni, the Nigerian top scorer in Premier League history with 95 goals in 252 games for four different clubs.
The Yak, as Aiyegbeni was fondly called scored 25 times in 82 games for Everton, also 25 times in 73 games for Middlesbrough, 28 goals in 67 matches for Portsmouth and 17 in 30 appearances for Blackburn Rovers.
Iwobi holds the Premier League assists record by a Nigerian, has played more minutes than any Nigerian in the history of the competition and has been the most subbed off Nigerian in Premier League history.
