Iwobi extends four ‘Nigerian’ Premier League records in Fulham loss at Brighton

Alex Iwobi bagged his 33rd assist in the Premier League on Saturday to extend his record in that category by a Nigerian to 33. Iwobi became Nigerian with the highest assists in the history of the English topflight after surpassing Nwankwo Kanu’s 29 last year.

The 28-year-old extended his record in Fulham’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton at the Falmer Stadium.

Iwobi set up Raul Jiménez’s opener in the 35th minute after a brilliant solo run from his own half down the right flank.

The Fulham star also extended his record as the Nigerian that has played the highest number of minutes in the competition.

He has played for 19, 114 minutes in the competition and he is followed by Wilfred Ndidi (17,346 minutes) who is expected to start for Leicester City when the Foxes face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The former Arsenal player was subbed off in the game against Brighton, marking the 15th time in 27 games this season and 122nd overall to hold the record as the most subbed off Nigerian in the history of the competition.

Iwobi’s 52 shots this season are the most by a Nigerian so far this term and he holds the record as the Super Eagles with the most shots fired (332) in Premier League history.
