Iwobi gunning for new assists record on seventh attempt, set for 255th EPL appearance
Alex Iwobi will be aiming to be the stand-alone Nigerian assists record holder when he plays for Fulham against Leicester City at the Craven Cottage on Saturday.
The 28-year-old became the joint Nigerian Premier League assists record holder with Nwankwo Kanu at 29 when he provided the assist for Andreas Pereira to score the second goal in their 2-0 defeat of west Ham at the London stadium in April this year and he has played six more games after that without bagging any assists.
Two of the Nigerian’s assists have come from his 11 games against the Foxes (in December 2020 and May 2022) and he will be looking at the visitors to get that vital assist that will make him stand alone as the Nigerian top assists’ provider in the competition.
Iwobi is also gunning for his 255th game in the competition and 195th start. He has played for 16,899 minutes in 254 appearances so far.
if he plays for just a minute against Leicester City, he will extend his record as the Nigerian with the most minutes played in Premier League history.
He will however hope to play for all 90 minutes like he did against Man United at Old Trafford last week to avoid extending his unwanted record as the most subbed off Nigerian in the history of the competition.
He has been subbed off 107 times so far in the 254 games he has featured in for Arsenal, Everton and Fulham.
