‘We Call Him Chukwu‑Magic’: Iwobi Lauds Chukwueze After Fulham’s Win at Spurs
Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has hailed the influence of Samuel Chukwueze after the winger’s sparkling display in the club’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Saturday night’s London derby.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, Iwobi admitted Fulham had targeted their first away win of the season and praised Chukwueze for delivering on his full debut: ‘We knew it was going to be difficult facing Tottenham. It was good to have a strong start. We wanted to get our first away win and that was the motivation today.’
On Chukwueze, Iwobi was emphatic: ‘He is energetic on and off the pitch. We are happy to have him. You can see the magic he does on the field. He is a great addition to the club. We want to give him the confidence. ‘Chukwu‑magic’ — that’s his nickname in the training field. He is able to do it in training and in matches. He just needs to stay consistent.’
Iwobi also highlighted the team’s spirit: ‘We have a nice brotherhood in the team. Everyone motivates each other and everyone fights for each other. The chemistry is good right now. It’s a London derby and hopefully this will kick start us to go on ahead in the table.’
Chukwueze, on loan from AC Milan, has now provided three assists in six Premier League games — the most by a Nigerian and by any Fulham player so far this season.
His tally is already one better than Iwobi’s two assists in 13 appearances. Saturday’s match marked Chukwueze’s first start in the competition after five substitute outings since his summer loan move from AC Milan.
