Iwobi Hails Rangers’ Emmanuel Fernandez After Nigeria Debut

Super Eagles defender Emmanuel Fernandez has earned glowing praise from Fulham midfielder and Nigerian international Alex Iwobi following his impressive debut for Nigeria.
Fernandez, who joined Rangers from Peterborough United last summer, made his first appearances for the Super Eagles during the recent international break, featuring against Iran and Jordan.
His performances caught the eye of Iwobi, who described the 21-year-old as ‘excellent’ in his first two outings.
‘I thought Emmanuel Fernandez was excellent in his first two games,’ Iwobi said. ‘Along with Chibuike Nwaiwu, he showed composure and made a really good impact against a physically demanding opponent. He did well and looked very solid. It was a good performance. The main thing is that we won because that gives us a confidence boost.’
Iwobi, who was sent off in the match against Jordan after winning his 96th cap, believes Fernandez has the qualities to become a key figure for Nigeria.
The defender’s assured displays have also fueled speculation of a potential big-money move at the end of the season, with several clubs reportedly monitoring his progress.
