Iwobi looking to extend three ‘Naija’ Premier League records in West Ham clash
Super Eagles midfielder, Alex Iwobi has played the greatest number of minutes, provided the most assists and has been subbed off the most among the 56 Nigerians who have featured in the history of the Premier League and the Fulham star will be looking to extend these records.
Iwobi will be sure of making his 21st start in 21 Premier League games for Fulham when the Cottagers travel to the London stadium to face their host, West Ham in a London derby.
The Nigerian has featured in 273 Premier League games since he made his debut for Arsenal in October 2015 and ranks as joint second with Nwankwo Kanu in the Nigerian all-time list of number of games played in the Premier League, behind Shola Ameobi who featured in 298 games.
The 28 year old has however played more minutes than any Nigerian in the competition and this record he is set to extend if he features for the 15th time in the Premier League against the Hammers.
Iwobi has played 18,534 minutes of Premier League football, 1,440 minutes more than second placed Wilfred Ndidi (17,094) who is currently injured.
The former Arsenal man has also provided more assists than any Nigerian in Premier League history. He has bagged 32 assists, three more than second placed Nwankwo Kanu who has retired and 19 more than Ndidi, who is next among players who are still playing in the Premier League.
With six assists in 14 Premier League games against West Ham, the most he has ever had against a Premier League team, Iwobi will be confident of extending his record after Tuesday night’s game.
Iwobi may have played more minutes than any Nigerian and played more games than 254 other Nigerians that have (and are) featured in the history of the competitions but the Fulham man has been subbed off more than any Nigerian in the history of the competition.
The former Everton player has been subbed off 116 times, 36 more than second placed Victor Moses (80) who now plays in the Sky Bet Championship, the second tier of English football.
