Iwobi overtakes Kanu, scores first EPL goal Vs Liverpool in 16 games to extend personal scoring record

Alex Iwobi scored his first goal and contributed his fifth assists in 16 Premier League games after inspiring Fulham to a 3-2 win in a Matchweek 32 game at Craven Cottage on Sunday.

The Nigerian has not scored in 15 previous appearances against the League leaders spanning his spells with Arsenal, Everton and now Fulham but the 28-year-old broke the jinx on Sunday as he fired the Cottagers to the lead in the 32nd minute after Ryan Sessegnon drew the host level on 23 minutes after Alexis Mac Allister had given Liverpool the lead in the 14th minute.

Iwobi moved from goalscorer to provider five minutes later to help Rodrigo Muniz fired in the third goal of the goal for a 3-1 first half lead.

The goal by Iwobi was his eighth of the campaign to further extend his personal scoring record in a single season while his assist was his fifth of the season.

The goal has brought his total tall in the competition to 30 while the assist is his 34th since he made his Premier League debut in October 2015.

The victory is also Iwobi’s second in 16 games Vs Liverpool and 114th in the 284 appearances he has made in the competition which moves him into second position behind Mikel Obi (149) on the list of Super Eagles with most wins in Premier League history.

Iwobi has thus supplanted another former Arsenal star, Nwankwo Kanu who won 113rd of the 273 games he played in the competition.
