Iwobi rues Fulham’s failure to hold on, extends unwanted record

Alex Iwobi has expressed disappointment with Fulham’s late collapse that denied them all three points at Goodison Park where they were forced to a 1-1 draw on Saturday.

The Nigerian gave the Cottagers the lead against his former side when he struck a superb second half opener from just outside the box after a brilliant Emile Smith Rowe assist.

The 28-year-old thought he had done enough to help his side return to winning ways after two back-to-back defeats suffered in the hands of Man City and Aston Villa.

A 94th minute equalizer by substitute Beto ensured Fulham only returned with a point and deny Iwobi the chance to make it 105 wins in 262 games in the competition.

He told Sky Sports after the final whistle:

‘It would have been a nice feeling to get three points against my old club, but we weren’t able to see it out. We have to take the positives.

‘I enjoyed my time at Everton and left on a good note. I hope they do well, but I didn’t want them to do well today.

‘I wish them all the best. It’s all well and good performing well and playing well, but the way to climb up the table is to get results.’

Meanwhile, Iwobi was subbed off on 90 minutes for Jorge Cuenca, the fourth time this season in nine appearances, same as Wilfred Ndidi also in nine games.

It was however the 111th overall in the 262 matches he has featured in since October 2015 when he made his Premier League debut.

He also played for 90 minutes before his substitution to extend his lead as the Nigerian with the most minutes played (17,578) in Premier League history
