Iwobi scores first EPL goal since October, rescues point for Everton at Leicester City

Alex Iwobi was the hero for Everton at the King Power stadium on Monday night after his 54th minute strike ensured the Toffees return to Goodison Park with a
point after their 2-2 draw with their host.

It was Iwobi’s first Premier League goal since he scored in the Toffees’ 2-1 loss to Manchester United at Goodison Park last October.

The Nigerian has now scored twice this season and provided six assists.

Iwobi made his 34th start in 34 Premier League games played so far by Everton this season and was denied the first opportunity of the game early in the first half by an intervention by Leicester City goalie, Daniel Iversen.

The ball was slipped into the Nigerian inside the box from the right-hands side and the fromer Arsenal star tried to pick out the top corner which he would have found if not for a big hand from Ivernsen.

The point was however not enough to move Everton out of the bottom three and will need to win at Brighton this weekend and hope the other results favour them as the battle to avoid relegation from the Premier League goes down to the wire.

Iwobi has now scored six Premier League goals in 117 appearances for Everton since his switch from Arsenal in August 2019. Overall, he has netted 17 times in 217 games since he made his debut in the competition in October 2015.

It is also the 26 year old’s ninth goal in 134 games across all competitions for Everton.
