Iwobi Set for 230th EPL Start, 20th Clash vs Man United
Alex Iwobi is poised to make his record-extending 230th Premier League start when Fulham host Manchester United at Craven Cottage on Sunday evening.
The Super Eagles midfielder continues to etch his name into the history books, having started over 10 more games than any other Nigerian—past or present—in the Premier League.
The former Arsenal and Everton star will also be making his 20th career appearance against Manchester United across all competitions, hoping to notch just his third goal against the Red Devils.
Notably, two seasons ago, Iwobi scored the decisive winner in Fulham’s memorable victory at Old Trafford, after fellow Nigerian Calvin Bassey had opened the scoring.
Iwobi is also on the brink of another landmark: with 19,868 minutes played in 292 Premier League matches, he is just 132 minutes away from becoming the first Nigerian to reach 20,000 minutes in the competition’s history.
If he plays the full 90 minutes on Sunday, it will mark his 11th start in 16 Premier League games against United—making them, alongside Liverpool, the team he’s faced most often.
Should he feature, Iwobi will be just seven games shy of 300 Premier League appearances, a feat no Nigerian has ever achieved. It would cement his legacy as the most capped and most enduring Nigerian player in Premier League history.
