Iwobi to start from bench for third time in 38 games, eager to join exclusive club of Nigerian goalscorers in EPL history
Alex Iwobi is starting on the bench for the third time this season in Fulham’s final game of the 2024/25 Premier League season against Man City.
The Nigerian will however be keen to be subbed in later in the game so as to make history as the first Nigerian in Premier League history to play in all 38 games of a Premier League season twice after making history as the second to start in all 38 games in the 2022/23 season.
The 28-year-old has been a consistent performer in the Premier League this term and will finish this campaign as the top scoring Nigerian in the competition.
Iwobi has scored nine goals in 37 games, his highest in a single Premier League season but the Fulham man could join an exclusive club of Nigerian players who have scored at least 10 goals in a Premier League season.
The former Arsenal and Everton man just needs to score once against Man City, a team he has not won, scored or provided an assist against in 16 appearances.
Iwobi is also on the verge of equaling his personal and Nigerian assists record in a season. The Super Eagle has provided six so far and needs just one against Pep Guardiola’s side to equal the feat he recorded in the 2022/23 season when he equaled Peter Odemwingie’s record of seven set in the 2010/11 season.
The Fulham midfielder is however battling for the top assists provider of the season with Leicester City midfielder, Wilfred Ndidi who has provided five against his six.
