Joshua Caleb Blazes to 20.71, Breaks Records in New Mexico

Joshua Caleb lit up the track at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic with a performance that will be remembered for years.

On Friday, the LSU sprinter stormed to a lifetime best of 20.71 seconds in the 200m, a run that not only gave him victory but also rewrote several records.

With that time, Caleb surged to the top of both the African and Nigerian lists for 2026, climbed to seventh in the world list this season, and etched his name into Nigeria’s all-time sprinting history by moving into sixth place thereby displacing Clement Chukwu’s 20.73 mark set back in 1999.

The race carried even more significance as Caleb shattered the facility record, previously held jointly by Mason Lawyer and Jelani Watkins at 20.78.

For Caleb, it was his first sub-21 second run of the season, a clear signal that he is entering a new phase of his career.
