Julian Alfred: ‘I want to be the fastest woman alive’
St Lucia athlete, Julian Alfred wants to replace 2016 double Olympic sprints champion, Elaine Thompson-Herah as the fastest woman alive.
The University of Texas graduate student has been in phenomenal form since the start of the year after returning from the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham
with a silver medal in the 100m behind the woman she intends to take her place as the fastest living woman.
Alfred successfully completed the 60m and 200m double at the 2023 NCAA indoor championships in record breaking fashion.
She sped to a new 6.94 and 22.01 in the 60m and 200m respectively to move to second in the all-time list for both events and has started the outdoor season
in spectacular fashions.
She set a 10.72 all condtions best in the 100m about a forthnight ago in Florida but holds a 10.81 personal best in the blue ribbad event she set last year.
In the 200m, the 21.91 she ran in Florida on April 14 this year is her first sub-22 seconds run in the event and Alfred, who will be 22 this June knows what
her mission is; to be the fastest woman alive.
‘I want to be the fastest woman alive. I think I have a long way to go. I still have to improve a lot of stuff. But I think that it’s gonna come. As long as I keep working towards it,’ she told FOX 7 Austin in an exclusive interview.
Thompson-Herah’s 10.54 lifetime best in the event makes her the fastest woman alive and second fastest in the all-time list behind the late Florence Griffith-Joyner (10.49) with another Jamaican, Shelly Anne Fraser-Pyrce third (10.60).
Alfred is just 25th in the all-time and she is confident she can move up the ladder and realise her dreams.
‘Seeing myself and picturing myself as one of the best, has helped me a lot. I’m a winner and I like to win and that’s what drives me to be the best,’ Alfred told FOX 7 Austin.
