Kenyan and Indian Athletes Dominate Latest AIU Sanctions List
In its November 2025 update, the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) has released a fresh list of athletes sanctioned for doping and non-doping violations, with Kenya and India emerging as the most affected nations.
Three athletes from each country feature prominently among the latest disciplinary actions.
Kenya’s Ruth Chepngetich, Diana Chepkorir, and Esphond Cheruiyot have all received multi-year bans.
Chepngetich, born in 1994, was sanctioned for a doping violation dated 14 March 2025 and will remain ineligible until April 2028. Chepkorir, a 2002-born athlete, faces a four-year ban following her infraction on 25 June 2024, while Cheruiyot, born in 2000, was handed a three-year suspension starting from September 2025.
India’s representation on the list includes Manju Bala, Mohan Saini, and Shikha Gupta.
Bala, born in 1989, was sanctioned for a five-year period following a June 2024 infraction. Saini, born in 1998, will serve a four-year ban for violations dating back to October 2023. Gupta, the youngest among the trio, born in 2000, received a six-year ineligibility period beginning in June 2024.
The AIU’s report, which spans infractions from 2017 to 2025, includes a range of sanctions from short-term suspensions to lifetime bans.
The most severe penalty was issued to China’s Ming Yang, who received a life ban for a 2017 infraction.
The list also highlights repeat offenders, such as Uganda’s Belinda Chemutai, who was sanctioned for a second anti-doping rule violation and will remain ineligible until April 2031.
