Kenya’s Ngetich set to make half marathon debut at Valencia Half Marathon
Kenyan runner Agnes Jebet Ngetich is set to make her Half marathon debut at the Valencia Half Marathon on Sunday in Valencia, the city where in January she broke the world record in the 10km (28:46) 5km (14:13) at the Valencia Ibercaja.
Will Ngetich set another world record on the road at the same city in one year? She will thus be the cynosure of all eyes on Sunday in an event where the two fastest times in the world over the distance have been achieved (1:02:52 by Letesenbet Gidey and 1:03:51 by Yalemzerf Yehualaw, both Ethiopians in 2021).
Ethiopia’s Tsigie Gebreselama and Kenya’s Lilian Kasait Rengeruk will be Ngetich’s main rivals vying in Valencia.
Gebreselama (1:05:14) is the fifth fastest woman over the distance this year and the fastest in the elite cast confirmed for the race.
Like Ngetich, Rengeruk will also be making her debut in the half marathon and the Paris 2024 Olympics 10,000m finalist (fifth) will be aiming to make history.
‘And a clear challenge to the stopwatch in the women’s race. Never before has a debutant taken to the start line who has run a 10K in under 29 minutes. We are really looking forward to seeing how fast the race will be on 27 October,’ said Marc Roig, coach of the event’s international elite athletes.
