Lagos Gears Up for Iconic Bank Lagos City Marathon

The countdown has begun for the 11th edition of the Lagos City Marathon, scheduled for Saturday, February 14, 2026.

Organisers Nilayo Sports Management Limited, alongside the Lagos State Government, have promised a world-class event that will mark the beginning of a new decade for one of Africa’s most prestigious road races.

Speaking at a press conference at Access Bank headquarters in Lagos, Nilayo’s Managing Director, Mrs. Yetunde Olopade, described the upcoming race as ‘symbolic,’
representing growth, resilience, and renewed ambition.

She expressed gratitude to Access Bank, other corporate sponsors, and the Lagos State Government for their unwavering support.

‘This 11th edition is not just another race,’ Olopade said. ‘It signals the start of another decade of excellence, impact, and global recognition for the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon.’

The Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, reaffirmed the government’s commitment, noting that the marathon continues to elevate Lagos’ global profile.

‘This race is more than a sporting event; it is a celebration of our culture, resilience, and capacity to host world-class events,’ he said.

With its World Athletics Gold Label status, the 2026 edition is expected to attract elite athletes from across the globe, further consolidating Lagos’ reputation as a hub for international sporting excellence.
