Lagos Marathon Organisers Yet to Deliver Medals, Results Yet To Be Uploaded By World Athletics
Nearly three weeks after the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon (ABLCM) 2026 was staged in Lagos, organisers are still struggling to resolve a medal distribution crisis that has left many runners dissatisfied.
Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML), the company behind the event, took to its official Facebook page to reassure participants that every deserving finisher will eventually receive their medal.
In the post, NSML wrote: ‘This is our solemn promise: every deserving finisher will receive their medal. We are currently working round the clock to conclude the distribution of additional medals to our designated pick-up locations, to ensure that the re-distribution exercise, once announced, is seamless, orderly and worthy of your effort.’
The medal issue appears to be compounded by another problem: organisers have not yet forwarded the official race results to World Athletics, almost three weeks after the marathon.

Former Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) officials suggest that this delay could be one of the reasons why sorting out the medal situation has proven difficult. Without the results being formally recognised, it becomes harder to verify finishers and ensure medals are distributed accurately.
Despite the assurances, many participants remain anxious. For them, the medal is not just a token but a symbol of endurance and achievement. NSML expressed gratitude to runners for their patience and faith in the marathon, pledging that no finisher will be left out.
