Lagos to host Africa’s first All-Electric Powerboat Championship: E1 Lagos GP set to make waves
This October, Lagos will make history as it welcomes the continent’s first ever E1 Grand Prix, a groundbreaking all-electric powerboat racing championship that will transform the city’s iconic waterways into a global sporting arena.
From October 2 to October 5, nine international pilots will race cutting-edge foiling electric boats across the Lagos Lagoon, marking a new chapter in African motorsport.
Backed by Guinness and Singleton, the week-long event promises more than just high-speed thrills. It will deliver a fusion of world-class competition, premium entertainment, and economic impact, with organizers projecting over US$100 million in direct and indirect benefits to Lagos State.
The ripple effect will be felt across hospitality, transport, local vendors, and the creative economy, as Victoria Island and Lekki transform into vibrant festival zones.
Hotels are preparing for full occupancy, restaurants are bracing for peak demand, and Lagos’ nightlife is set to explode with after-race parties, whisky tastings, and cultural activations.
The nine-pilot showdown introduces a new dimension to African sport, expanding the continent’s portfolio with high-octane marine motorsport.
While the prize purse remains undisclosed, the event’s global broadcast reach ensures Lagos a prominent place on the international sporting calendar.
More importantly, the championship is positioned as a catalyst for marine innovation, sustainable water transport, and youth empowerment in fields like engineering, logistics, and sport management.

Adding flair to the festivities, Guinness and Singleton will extend the race experience into Lagos’ lounges, bars, and cultural venues.
