Leko: No One Can Replace Onyedika Ahead of Atlético Madrid Clash

Club Brugge head coach Ivan Leko has admitted that losing Raphael Onyedika for the second leg of their UEFA Champions League tie against Atlético Madrid is a major blow.

The Nigerian midfielder was instrumental in the first leg, scoring and assisting in the thrilling 3-3 draw at the Jan Breydel Stadium. But his booking late in that game means he will miss the return fixture at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Leko confessed that finding a direct replacement for Onyedika is nearly impossible, stressing that the squad does not have another player with his exact profile.

‘It’s difficult to replace him one-on-one. We don’t immediately have the same profile in our squad,’ the Croatian coach said, noting that several tactical adjustments are being considered.

He added that discussions with the players will determine the best approach.

Onyedika’s absence leaves a significant gap in midfield as Brugge chase a place in the Champions League Round of 16, with Leko acknowledging the challenge of maintaining balance without one of his most influential performers.
