Lookman Chasing Martins in UEFA Champions League Scoring Charts

Ademola Lookman is aiming to extend his impressive start in the UEFA Champions League with Atlético de Madrid as he prepares to face Tottenham Hotspur.

The Nigerian forward, who arrived from Atalanta in the winter transfer window, has already made his mark with a goal and an assist in his first two appearances for the Spanish side.

Another contribution against Spurs would give him three direct involvements in as many games, and his second against the North London club, having previously faced them during his Premier League stints with Fulham and Leicester City.

Lookman has yet to score in four previous meetings with Tottenham and is still searching for his first victory against them, with two draws and two defeats to date.

His current European form, however, suggests he is ready to change that record.

At 28, he is also chasing a place in Nigerian football history. A brace against Spurs would move him level with Obafemi Martins in second place among Nigeria’s top scorers in the Champions League.

Martins struck nine times in 34 appearances across six seasons, while Lookman has already tallied seven goals and five assists in just 17 matches.

Victor Osimhen leads the Nigerian chart with 16 goals in 25 games, setting the standard Lookman is now determined to reach.
