Lookman Climbs into Top Six Nigerian Scorers in Copa del Rey History

Ademola Lookman has moved into the top six Nigerian scorers in Copa del Rey history after netting three goals in just two appearances for Atlético Madrid.

The 28-year-old forward announced himself in the competition with a goal and an assist on his debut in the 5–0 demolition of Real Betis, before adding another strike and an assist in Thursday night’s 4–0 victory over Barcelona at the Wanda Metropolitano.

Lookman now sits joint sixth among Nigerian players in the competition, alongside Kalu Uche, who scored twice in 13 games, his brother Ikechukwu Uche, who netted twice in 18 matches, and Chrisantus Macauley, who also scored twice in eight appearances.

Ahead of them are Bartholomew Ogbeche, Odion Ighalo and Kelechi Iheanacho, each with three goals. Kabiru Akinsola ranks fourth with four goals in six Copa del Rey games.

Samuel Chukwueze remains Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the competition with nine goals in 14 appearances, followed by Umar Sadiq with seven in 19 matches and Finidi George, who netted five times in 13 outings.
