Lookman Climbs into Top Five Nigerian Scorers in Copa del Rey History

Ademola Lookman has moved into the top five Nigerian scorers in Copa del Rey history after netting three goals in just two appearances for Atlético Madrid.

The 28-year-old forward announced himself in the competition with a brace on his debut in the 5–0 demolition of Real Betis, before adding another strike in Thursday night’s 4–0 thrashing of Barcelona in Madrid.

Lookman now sits joint fifth among Nigerian players in the competition, alongside Bartholomew Ogbeche, who scored three times in 10 games, Odion Ighalo with three goals in five appearances, and Kelechi Iheanacho, who like Lookman struck three times in just two matches.

Ahead of them is Kabiru Akinsola, who ranks fourth with four goals in six Copa del Rey games.

Samuel Chukwueze remains Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in the competition with nine goals in 14 appearances, followed by Umar Sadiq with seven in 19 matches, and Finidi George, who netted five times in 13 outings.
