Lookman Future Uncertain Amid Spurs and Galatasaray Interest
Tottenham Hotspur’s pursuit of Ademola Lookman has hit a stumbling block, with fresh reports dismissing claims of an agreement between the Atalanta forward and Galatasaray.
Spurs had been monitoring the Nigerian international as one of several attacking options ahead of the January transfer window, particularly after his failed attempt to leave the Gewiss Stadium in the summer.
Inter Milan had already seen an approach rejected, prompting Lookman to publicly accuse Atalanta of ‘months of broken promises.’
Despite his impressive record in Italy, Lookman has endured a subdued start to the current campaign, scoring just once in 10 appearances and clashing with former manager Ivan Juric during a Champions League tie against Marseille.
Juric’s dismissal and the appointment of Raffaele Palladino have not eased the uncertainty surrounding the 28-year-old, who is entering the final 18 months of his contract.
While a return to the Premier League could tempt him, Galatasaray have now emerged as rivals to Tottenham in the race for his signature.
The Turkish giants reportedly explored a move late in the summer and remain keen, though Fabrizio Romano insists no agreement has been reached with the player or Atalanta.
A transfer to Istanbul would reunite Lookman with compatriot Victor Osimhen, who has already made a blistering impact at Galatasaray following his move from Napoli.
Lookman’s Atalanta record remains strong, with 53 goals and 25 assists in 128 appearances, highlighted by his unforgettable hat-trick in the 2023/24 Europa League final against Bayer Leverkusen.
His versatility across the frontline makes him an attractive option for Thomas Frank, but Tottenham’s recruitment team may weigh his past struggles in England against his recent success in Serie A before committing to a move.
