Ademola Lookman continues to etch his name into Africa Cup of Nations history.
The Atalanta forward netted once and provided two assists in Nigeria’s 4-0 annihilation of the Mambas of Mozambique in their round of 16 tie in Fes on Monday night.
The victory ensured Nigeria secured their 12th quarterfinal appearance and will face the winner of the Algeria Vs DR Congo round of 16 game after on Tuesday.
The 27 year old has now scored six goals and provided five assists in just 10 AFCON games, moving to second behind the legendary Rashidi Yekini in terms of goal involvements by a Nigerian at the tournament.
He is also the joint-third most prolific Nigerian in AFCON history, level with Segun Odegbami and Julius Aghahowa.
After claiming his second Man of the Match award of the competition, Lookman remained humble, insisting the team’s success mattered more than personal accolades.
‘This award is important, but the most important thing for me is the team’s victory. We are playing very well and scoring goals consistently.
‘We have strong attacking qualities, which allow us to create many chances. The team is in good shape, and we will continue to take the tournament one game at a time,’ he said at the post-match press conference.
