Lookman Scores on Atletico Madrid Debut in Copa del Rey

Ademola Lookman has marked his Atletico Madrid debut in style, scoring in the Copa del Rey quarter-final against Real Betis at the Estadio de La Cartuja in Seville.

The Nigerian forward, who joined the Spanish giants in the winter transfer deadline day, struck Atletico’s third goal in the 37th minute as Diego Simeone’s men took a commanding 3-0 first half lead.

The 27-year-old has made a habit of announcing himself with goals on debut. Back in August 2022, Lookman scored on his Serie A debut for Atalanta, netting in stoppage time to seal a 2-0 win over UC Sampdoria.

He also found the net on his cup debut for the Bergamo side, a feat he has now repeated in Spain.

Attention will now turn to Sunday, when Lookman is expected to make his La Liga bow at the Civitas Metropolitano.

In a twist of fate, Atletico will once again face Real Betis, giving the Nigerian a chance to shine in front of his new home supporters.
