Lookman set to return to Atalanta squad ahead of Lecce clash

Ademola Lookman is set to rejoin Atalanta’s first team squad this week after more than a month of individual training and transfer speculation.

The Nigerian forward, fresh off international duty, is expected to arrive at the club’s Zingonia training base between Thursday and Friday, marking the end of a tense period of separation.

Following his appearances for the Super Eagles in World Cup qualifiers against Rwanda and South Africa, Lookman returns to Bergamo in decent physical condition. His initial sessions will likely be light, but his reintegration into Ivan Juric’s squad is now confirmed.

This mirrors the situation from 2024, when Lookman was kept apart until the transfer window closed before being welcomed back into the fold.

Once again, Atalanta have opted for stability, resisting late transfer moves and reaffirming their trust in the 27-year-old attacker.

While a starting role against Lecce on Sunday seems unlikely, Lookman’s inclusion in the matchday squad is not ruled out.

His availability will depend on how he responds physically in the first few training sessions. The club’s priority is to have him fully fit for the demanding run of fixtures ahead, including their Champions League opener against PSG.
